FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where are you located?
We are located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains , in beautiful Golden, BC. Please refer to our locations link for a detailed map of how to find us, or speak to one of our friendly staff.

What equipment do you provide?
We provide you with all of your rafting equipment. This includes Wetsuits, Neoprene booties or socks, Splash tops, Helmets, Life Jackets, Self Bailing Rafts and Paddles. We provide transportation to and from the river and our buses are driven by professional class 1 licensed drivers. We have radio communications between the rafts, our drivers and our office.

What should I bring?
All you need to bring is a swimsuit, old tennis shoes or sport sandals and a fleece or wool sweater.

What's for lunch?
We provide a delicious riverside steak (Alberta Beef) barbeque lunch, complete with appetizers, dessert and hot and cold beverages. We also provide vegetarian lunches upon request (chicken, fish or veggie burgers).

What if it rains?
We run rain or shine. Rafting is the best thing to do on a rainy day- you are going to get wet anyway!

Do I need to know how to swim?
You don't need to be a confident swimmer, but should be comfortable around water.

How are rapids rated?
Rapids are rated on a scale of 1–6. Class 1: fast moving water, Class 2: Splashy waves, Class 3: waves or holes big enough to swamp an open canoe, Class 4: numerous big waves or holes with obstacles to avoid, Class 5: Large chance of raft flipping, un-navigable commercially, Class 6: un-navigable in any raft ( Niagara Falls)!

Is someone going to take my photograph?
Our professional onsite photographer takes digital photos of you at some of the best whitewater sections on the river. He will also be at lunch where he takes photos of you and your group. You can view and purchase your photos back at our base at the end of the day.

Do I need experience to come rafting?
Many of our rafters are first timers. The Kicking Horse Classic is recommended as our guides take time in the morning to acclimatize you so that you feel comfortable and confident in the raft. You have the option of learning and perfecting paddle techniques, or you can choose to just hold on. For the more experienced, we recommend the Kicking Horse Challenge.

Do you ever see wildlife while you're on the river? (Link to Wildlife Pictures)
Yes – Mountain Goats, Black Bears, Big Horn Sheep, and Bald Eagles are among many of the species often spotted along the banks.

What makes Glacier Raft Company unique?
This is our 25th year of running rafting trips on the Kicking Horse River ! Glacier was the first company to run commercial trips on the lower canyon. Our trips are never rushed on the river, as we always take time to ensure your safety and enjoyment. We limit each boat to 8 customers allowing maximum comfort and personal attention from your guide. Trips are designed for you to have a memorable day out, appreciate our beautiful area and enjoy the entertainment provided by our guides. Our base is located on the river in the town of Golden BC. At the end of your adventure, we invite you to join us around the campfire for a cold beverage and share stories of the day!
