We’re happy to announce that Glacier Raft Company has partnered with One Tree Planted. We care about the planet and creating a business that gives back, and starting this summer, we'll plant one tree for every booking made to raft the Kicking Horse River. You can come river rafting in Golden, BC and be proud knowing that a tree is going into the ground on your behalf.
Every tree makes a positive impact for nature, wildlife and people, and we’re honoured to support reforestation with this one small step.

Why are We Giving Back by Planting Trees?
If you asked us to make a list of our top 10, most favourite things, trees would be on there. Trees would be in the top 5 because they’re that important to our quality of life and well being.
Walking through the forest and feeling the breeze, listening to the rustling leaves and the birds chirping from their nests. Seeing the sun shine through branches and rain drops pooling on leaves. The smell of conifers, the freshness of forest air and little pillows of snow piling on bare winter branches.
We need this. We need it for our mental and physical health and that’s why we’ve taken the step to work with One Tree Planted.
We’ve built our lives and rafting business around our love for the outdoors, as a way to enjoy it and share it with others. We live to be outside. To be exploring and playing and appreciating our environment.
We feel a very deep connection to our natural world and we know we all need to do our part to protect it. The planet is facing an existential crisis, and partnering with One Tree Planted is one small step we can take right now towards sustainability.
We know this isn’t the only thing we need to do, but we do know that small actions taken consistently over time add up to the big changes we need to see. Especially when we’re all taking these steps together.
We’re committed to planting one tree for every booking we take - for as long as we’re white water rafting on the Kicking Horse River. When you book a river rafting trip in Golden, BC, you can be proud that a sapling will go into the ground.
Our feelings of peace and calm come from being outside. It’s what makes us happy and grateful and we want everyone to experience this. We know we need a healthy planet for us to be healthy.
The objectives of our new partnership with one tree planted
- Supporting global reforestation
- Sustainable action for us and our guests
- Talking one small step to help protect the natural spaces we love so much
We’re excited about this partnership because it offers our company a sustainability solution we can begin right now. It's also an easy way for you, as our guest, to get involved in global reforestation.
When you book your river rafting trip in Golden we will plant a tree through One Tree Planted. We’ve also set it up that you have the option to add an additional tree (or trees) to your cart when you’re reserving your rafting seats. It’s an easy way to increase your impact as $1.00 equals one tree in the ground.
Who is One Tree Planted?
One Tree Planted is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. Their projects span the globe and are done in partnership with local communities and knowledgeable experts. They work to create an impact for nature, people, and wildlife.
Reforestation helps to rebuild forests after fires and floods, provide jobs for social impact, and restore biodiversity. Many projects have overlapping objectives, creating a combination of benefits that contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
One Tree Planted also raises awareness about the importance of trees.
Trees clean our air and filter our water. They create habitats for biodiversity and contribute to our health and wellbeing. We wrote an entire blog a couple of years ago on the benefits of spending time outside. We know we need a healthy planet to continue enjoying those benefits.
Forests provide jobs, absorb harmful carbon and pollutants from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.
One Tree Planted plants trees in North America, Central America, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Pacific. They operate in over 43 countries and have planted 43,000,000 trees to date (as of 2022).
We like that One Tree Planted has projects in British Columbia. As our province and our home it’s important to us to care for it. We know BC is facing major threats as a result of climate change. We’ve just experienced one of the worst forest fire seasons and flooding events this past year and we know it’s time to step up and make change.
We’re honoured to have reforestation through One Tree Planted as a part of our daily operation. We’re committed to planting one tree for every booking we receive for as long as we’re rafting on the Kicking Horse River.

What's river rafting in golden with glacier all about?
Glacier is the original river rafting company in Golden, BC. We’ve been operating on the Kicking Horse River since 1982, and we remain a small, local, family run business.
We strive to exceed your expectations and share with you our beautiful home. We want you to have a river rafting experience you'll keep reliving for a long time after you leave.
The Kicking Horse River has three different raftable canyons - the Upper, Middle and Lower. Each offers a different river experience, and you can choose to raft as much or as little as you’d like. We can make sure you find the river adventure you’re hoping for.
The Upper Canyon is the calmest stretch of river and we like to refer to it as a fast paced float.
The Middle Canyon is the first of two whitewater sections. It starts off with a 1 km stretch of fun class 4 whitewater, and has lots of other class 3 and 4 rapids spaced throughout.
The Lower Canyon is also a whitewater section. It has 4 km of class 4 whitewater which is very unique and special in commercial river rafting. It’s rare to have such a long stretch of continuous whitewater and this section of the river is only accessible by helicopter.
To see a map of the river showing each of our trips and where they raft, our Kicking Horse River Rafting Overview page lays it all out.
